It takes a stereotypically vapid event and treats it with care and empathy and even gives it an opportunity to shine when it could have gone a much more mean-spirited route. The "it's a scholarship program" in my opinion is a very powerful line both for the audience and the main character. 43% on Rotten Tomatoes is a shocker.”
