how much it moved you
Two separate readings, not parts of the score — the score says how much of it held you, these say what kind of watch it was.
Nobody has rated this on FlickFeel yet. This is public discussion of this title, read into a curve. It is not a rating and it never becomes one.
Read from 284 comments (232 from Reddit, 45 from Metacritic, 7 from TMDB reviews) — 95 of them described how it moves.
📈 rising arc — Builds the whole way through. Pulled both ways throughout — never simply one thing. Very little of it ever resolves. Marked above the line: 2 moments that made people jump, 3 that landed as a blow.

“you really feel that extra run time”

“I also don't think the remake handles the tonal shift near the end as well as the original did. On the positive side, I thought the set design was really good. The carnival felt dirty, the fun house was creepy, and Cate Blanchett's office felt big and expensive. Willem Dafoe was tremendous in his relatively small role. He really felt like a sleezey old-timey carnival barker. I also thought the ending really improved on the original.”

“The first half of the film felt at home in a Del Toro flick. The darkness. The production design.”

“The second half slowed, but still had some Del Toro touches.”

“The murder / suicide in the middle of the film was SOOO loud!”

“I actually had to look away when the geek was biting off the chicken's head at the beginning.”

Published reviews, not felt experience — a different question from the one above, and never mixed into the FlickFeel score.
“Even those unfamiliar with one or both materials can detect the cyclical parable del Toro establishes through his understanding and repurposing of noir tropes, both visual and thematic. His “Nightmare Alley” is a movie of psychological tunnels and downward spirals.”
Carlos Aguilar, RogerEbert.com · 100
“Del Toro can do worldbuilding in his sleep, but you might also find Cooper’s brittle performance, filled with such elemental sadness, hard to shake off. Nightmare Alley is the shadow that lingers.”
Clarisse Loughrey, The Independent · 100
“Years ago, I compared Del Toro to Orson Welles, a film-maker who instinctively understood the hypnotic power of cinema to dazzle, delight and deceive. On the basis of Nightmare Alley, which is blessed with more than a touch of evil, that’s a comparison by which I still stand.”
Mark Kermode, The Observer (UK) · 100
“Just as ugly and beautiful as any classic noir, del Toro’s dark, dazzling three-ring Hollywood circus proves the old-fashioned event film still has a lot of life left.”
Paul Bradshaw, NME · 100
“Some moviegoers will be repelled – there was only a smattering of light applause during the film’s Toronto premiere, which was filled with audiences who likely leapt to their feet at the end of The Shape of Water – but it is as effective a nightmare as Del Toro has ever conjured.”
Barry Hertz, The Globe and Mail (Toronto) · 91
