Not a rating. This is public discussion of this title, read into a curve — shown next to the community score above, never mixed into it.
Read from 278 comments (220 from Reddit, 41 from Metacritic, 17 from TMDB reviews) — 43 of them described how it moves.
➖ steady — Holds one level all the way. Pulled both ways throughout — never simply one thing. In the last stretch it was tender and painful at the same time, which is the state people mean by being moved. Very little of it ever resolves. Marked above the line: 5 that landed as a blow, 1 that gave people chills, 3 that got a real laugh.

“That shot of Killmonger walking up to the throne while the camera is spinning around signifying Wakanda’s whole world turned upside down.”

“Fucking lost it at that line”
“His final line about being thrown into the sea like his brothers instead of being in bondage really struck me. Even when he was defeated, he still held firm to his beliefs and died for them”

“Young Erik’s response to his dad on the ancestral plane about not crying when he saw him because everyone around him dies really got me.”

“While the themes are deep, Black Panther is at the same time a visual joy to behold, with confident quirkiness (those aforementioned war rhinos), insane action sequences and special effects, and the glorious reveal of Wakanda, whose culture is steeped in African influences but which also offers a jaw-dropping look at what a city of the future could be.”
Brian Truitt, USA Today · 100
“Say this about Black Panther, which raises movie escapism very near the level of art: You've never seen anything like it in your life.”
Peter Travers, Rolling Stone · 100
“A film that fulfills the most rote demands of superhero spectacle, yet does so with style and subtexts that feel bracingly, joyfully groundbreaking.”
Ann Hornaday, Washington Post · 100
“On a pure pop level, as a piece of big-time mainstream entertainment, let us also celebrate this: Black Panther is one of the best superhero movies of the century.”
Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times · 100
“Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther is the film that will change everything. When you see it, you know that from here on in, everything will be different. Whilst a Marvel story through and through, fitting perfectly into the MCU post-Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther stands alone as a masterpiece of filmmaking.”

I loved exploring Wakanda through T’Challa’s story. The world-building, characters, and conflict kept me engaged, and it had a good balance of action and emotion.
