Two separate readings, not parts of the score β the score says how much of it held you, these say what kind of watch it was.

β steady β Holds one level all the way. Pulled both ways throughout β never simply one thing. Marked above the line: 1 that landed as a blow, 1 that gave people chills.

βWar for the Planet of the Apes brings the trilogy to a very satisfying conclusionβ

βAt the end of War, while watching his family...that's where he wanted to be. The only thing on his mind were his people. He could finally rest easy knowing that his family and friends were finally safe.β

βThe effects are incredible, the action is exciting, the music is great, and Andy Serkis, once again embodying a non-human character through motion-capture technology, remains terrific. But thereβs something more here.β

βIt would be hard to overstate just how singular this picture feels in its seriousness of purpose and in its cumulative power to enthrall and astonish.β

βThere is a scene toward the end of War for the Planet of the Apes that is as vivid and haunting as anything Iβve seen in a Hollywood blockbuster in ages, a moment of rousing and dreadful cinematic clarity that I donβt expect to shake off any time soon.β
A.O. Scott, The New York Times Β· 100
βReeves keeps the action moving steadily, never letting the filmβs 140 minutes feel even slightly bloated, and surrounds Caesar with a visually stunning, compassionately conceived group of side characters.β

βWar for the Planet of the Apes may have the body of an action film, but it has the soul of an art-house drama and the brains of a political thriller.β

βthis film finishes the Apes origins saga in a way that's far more gripping, intelligent, and thought-provoking than a blockbuster could ever be expected to be. Caesar ought to be cemented as one of cinema's most memorable characters. This movie completes his arc so powerfullyβ

βOn this movie I have to get a couple of things out of the way straight away. First, the movie title and the blurb is hyperbole that has little to do with actual events in the movie. This is not some great war but just some silly little three way skirmish between some apes and two human factions. Second, the story for this movie is clearly written by someone who has an agenda and that agenda includes preaching how bad the white man is. Not surprisingly the result is bland, boring, frustrating aβ
