〰️ uneven — Peaks and dips, no clear shape. Hard going most of the way through.

“Knowing is among the best science-fiction films I've seen -- frightening, suspenseful, intelligent and, when it needs to be, rather awesome.”
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times · 100
“This is a severely flawed, but also a fascinating and engrossing science fiction film, a picture that offers far more than surface thrills.”
Scott Mendelson, Film Threat · 70
“By being judicious with CGI, Proyas gives the film's handful of disaster sequences great impact.”
Stan Hall, Portland Oregonian · 67
“It's just engaging enough to make you accept the possibility that two kids from the Boston suburbs may just be mankind’s only hope for the future, and just exciting enough to make you forget that you're watching a Nicolas Cage movie.”
Josh Rosenblatt, Austin Chronicle · 67
“Genre fans always looking for something new and awesome may feel like they've seen most of this before, but the conceptual and emotional strength of Summit's Nicolas Cage starrer largely carries the day.”
Todd McCarthy, Variety · 60

“***What if everything’s not just meaningless chance?*** A disillusioned professor in the Boston area (Nicolas Cage) acquires a document that has successfully predicted tragedies for the last fifty years, but new ones as well (!). Rose Byrne plays the daughter of the seer. “Knowing” (2009) is a quality drama/mystery with elements of disaster/sci-fi and even a little horror. It’s along the lines of wonder-inducing flicks like “The Mothman Prophecies” (2002), “Contact” (1997), “The Forgotten”

“A very intriguing set-up, but not much else of note is found in _Knowing_. _Final rating:★★ - Had some things that appeal to me, but a poor finished product._”
