how much it moved you
Two separate readings, not parts of the score — the score says how much of it held you, these say what kind of watch it was.
Nobody has rated this on FlickFeel yet. This is public discussion of this title, read into a curve. It is not a rating and it never becomes one.
Read from 43 comments (39 from Metacritic, 4 from TMDB reviews) — 25 of them described how it moves.
📈 rising arc — Builds the whole way through. Pulled both ways throughout — never simply one thing. It tightens hardest in the first half. Marked above the line: 1 that landed as a blow.

“the narrative was a bit too drawn out and at the same time too abrupt for me”

“C’est beaucoup trop long cette espèce de documentaire à deux de tension sur les péquenots qui partent au Vietnam et en reviennent… (ou pas)”
Broyax · Metacritic ↗
“On replonge donc dans l’apathie et l’ennui aussi sec, un ennui à couper au couteau ! Une vraie purge comateuse, ce machin qui n’en finit pas : un enfer à regarder ou tenter de regarder jusqu’au bout !”

“What distinguishes The Deer Hunter most is its many rich characters and the size of its vision. This is a big film, dealing with big issues, made on a grand scale. Much of it, including some casting decisions, suggest inspiration by "The Godfather." [9 Mar 1979]”
Gene Siskel, Chicago Tribune · 100
“Overlong, but with moments of greatness.”
Luke Y. Thompson, Dallas Observer · 100
“Brutally memorable, The Deer Hunter is an emotionally draining production that draws a vivid portrait of its characters and their milieu--and succeeds in showing the devastating effect of the war on their lives, as well as their brave attempts at renewal. Unfortunately, the film falters when it comes to the larger questions of America's involvement in Vietnam.”
Staff (Not Credited), TV Guide Magazine · 100
“Among the considerable achievements of Michael Cimino's The Deer Hunter is the fact that the film remains intense, powerful and fascinating for more than three hours.”
Charles Schreger, Variety · 100
“It is not an anti-war film. It is not a pro-war film. It is one of the most emotionally shattering films ever made.”
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times · 100

Grouped by where it was written, because a considered review and a reaction typed an hour after the credits are different things. Every quote links to its source.

“Slow pace movie which nicely depicts the life of worker class Russian inmigrants in USA and the impact that its young generation receives from Vietnam's war. The actual shock cause being the crazy game of the Russian roulette only helps from the artistic point of view of the film but it is well blended into the actual story.”

“With director Cimino's recent death and his reputation in tatters since the debacle of 'Heaven's Gate', I decided to visit 'The Deer Hunter'. Though over three hours long, it's astonishing, paced so achingly right and I can see why he rightfully earned the 'carte blanche' that would unfortunately lead to his downfall (as well as an entire studio's) as soon as he made his next film. But to reach such heights and to have such ambition--as well as undeniable talent--is a victory in and of itself. J”

“The Deer Hunter (1978) — Excellent character war drama that showcases some great performances, mainly De Niro and Walken. Directed by Michael Cimino, this 3-hour film takes its time developing these characters and shows the psychological side of the horrors of Vietnam, and war in general. Probably makes a good companion film with Apocalypse Now, released only seven months later (in the U.S.). **4.5/5**”
